 Indians in Unexpected Places by Deloria, Philip
Rewriting the story of the national encounter with modernity, Deloria provides revealing accounts of Indians doing unexpected things - singing opera, driving cars, acting in Hollywood - in ways that suggest new directions for American Indian history.

 Islands of Decolonial Love by Simpson, Leanne
This activist vividly explores the lives of contemporary Indigenous Peoples and communities, especially those of her own Nishnaabeg nation. Found on reserves, in cities and small towns, in bars and curling rinks, canoes and community centers, these characters confront the often-heartbreaking challenge of pairing the desire to live loving and observant lives with a constant struggle to simply survive racism and colonialism. 

 Choosing Brave by Joy, Angela
This story presents the mother of Emmett Till, and how she channeled grief over her son's death into a call to action for the civil rights movement.  John Steptoe Award. For grades 2-4.
